If you have already pasted text using the standard Paste command, you can remove the formatting retroactively. However, Word has additional text formatting feature that can be handy. The main difference, at least for those who prefer keyboard shortcuts, is to just remember that extra Option key in the command. Just copy the text you want, place your cursor in your destination Word document, and use the Paste and Match Formatting command or shortcut to paste only the text to match the destination’s current formatting. You would use the command in the same way as Paste and Adjust Style in any other macOS app. In Microsoft’s case, the command you want is called Paste & Match Format and the keyboard shortcut is Option-Shift-Command-V. The end result is basically the same, but the names and process differ. Unfortunately, for consistency reasons, Microsoft Word for Mac does things a little bit differently. This works all over your Mac too, so you can try it out in TextEdit, Pages, and so on! Paste and match formatting in Microsoft Word This gives a much cleaner look, although a drawback is that it does indeed remove all original formatting, including links. There are times when the original text formatting is useful, but in these and many other cases I’m interested in the actual ones words instead of what they look like, but if I do instead Edit> Paste and adjust style (default shortcut Shift-Command-V), I would end up with just the text, formatted according to the current settings in my destination document or app. This can be attractive, but in many cases it is over the top and unnecessary. In the screenshot below, I copied the content of an article I wrote and pasted it into an email via the normal Paste command: As you can see above, the font sizes, links, colors, etc.

Usually found in the Edit menu, the Paste and Fit to Style command removes everything you’ve copied from the formatting and pastes the formatted source text from the document. The command you are looking for is a cousin of the standard Paste command called Paste and Match Style.
